Job Overview:
Joy As Resistance is a startup nonprofit experiencing a high level of growth and expansion. Joy is seeking an experienced and passionate Co-Executive Director of Finance and Operations to lead our financial strategy and ensure smooth operational processes. This role will play a crucial part in setting operations goals, managing fiscal controls, and ensuring compliance while supporting the organization’s mission.

Key Responsibilities:
● Operations Strategy: Set goals and drive the strategy for the organization's operational functions.
● Development Goals: Define and monitor overall development goals in alignment with the organization's vision.
● Fiscal Controls & Financial Compliance: Lead the training and accountability processes around fiscal controls, ensuring the financial health of the organization; ensure compliance with financial reporting requirements including managing the organization’s Form 990 and audits; lead the preparation and presentation of financial reports to internal and external stakeholders
● Grants Management: Oversee internal grants management, including spending, progress on metrics, and compliance with grant guidelines.
● Payroll Management: Manage payroll processes, ensuring accuracy and timely payments.
● Operational Systems: Manage and optimize operational systems to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
Collaborative Responsibilities:
● Serve as Board of Directors Liaison ensuring the Board remains informed and engaged in strategic planning through smooth communication
● Steward grant management in collaboration with the Grant Writer, ensuring timely submission and follow-up on proposals.
● Collaborate on the development and tracking of the organization's budget and strategic plan.
● Oversee accounts receivable and accounts payable alongside the Executive Director of Vision and Strategy.
● Track both earned and contributed income, ensuring accurate reporting and forecasting.
● Oversee the management of office spaces, ensuring efficient use and maintenance of resources.
● Support the onboarding and offboarding processes for staff, interns, and vendors, ensuring a smooth transition for all parties.
Qualifications:
● Bachelor’s degree in finance, business administration, nonprofit leadership, or a related field.
● 5+ years of experience in financial management and operations.
● Strong knowledge of financial compliance (i.e. audits and 990 filings).
● Proven leadership skills with a track record of successfully managing teams, mission driven work, and operations with an emphasis on collaboration and transparency.
● Experience in grant management and partnership development.
● Excellent communication and organizational skills.
● Commitment to anti-oppressive practices and supporting marginalized communities, particularly LGBTQIA2+ youth.

Physical Requirements:
● Weekly communication via email, phone, Slack, and/or video call
● Consistent transportation and attendance to in-person community engagement events and meetings
● Frequent extended hours in front of a computer screen with or without accommodations
● Regular group, 1:1, and public speaking interactions
● Occasional activities occurring outdoors.
Work Environment:
Joy As Resistance moved into a new office space in northeast Denver at 1445 Quince St.
Employees are expected to be in person in the office and our community for 30% of their work hours in Fall and Winter and 50% in Spring and Summer. Remaining work hours can be completed remotely; remote working hours can be negotiated based on program needs. Our office is in a second story space, requiring the use of a stairwell.
Travel throughout Metro Denver for outreach, events, and facilitation is required for this job; therefore, reliable transportation is needed. Travel around the country for conferences is also expected. Employees will be given a work laptop to use during their role.

Salary and Benefits:
The Joy team created our Equitable Salary Matrix throughout 2022, a model that allows us to center equity, lived experience, skill sets, and the functions of each position. Every full-time staff member has a base salary with 12 additional “Areas of Value” based on the role accountabilities and employee experiences for additional compensation.
Based on the accountabilities for this position, we estimate that the base salary for this role will be $68,000 with the opportunity for increased compensation up to $95,000 based on the “Areas of Value.”
Additional Benefits include:
● 100% company paid health insurance and life insurance for full-time employees. We also offer dental and vision benefits paid by the employee.
● $500/per year stipend for professional development and continuing education
● Full-time is 35 hours per week
● Six weeks of paid office closures following the Denver Public Schools calendar and 7 paid holidays
● Flexible and negotiable work schedule with a mix of 9 am - 5 pm work hour meetings and weekend and evening events.
